On the West of Cyprus ruins of a medieval Georgian monastery have been found. As the local press informs, in 1981 the Georgian professor Vakhtang Dzhobadze has informed about the destroyed church in the wood to the north from Paphos. However only in October, 2006 the commission of experts of the Cyprian Department of antiquity and the Georgian ministry of culture have established its exact site. The Georgian monastery has been working from X till XIV century, about what testifies the inscriptions found in its southern gallery. Experts have established that the temple had a special support of legendary Georgian tsarina Tamara /1184-1213/ which has allocated funds for its scale restoration. Now on Cyprus live many Georgian people. They have received a residence permit on Cyprus. Many of them become rich and have cyprus villas and restaurants. Some people simply work in consumers services, for example in the shops. |
